Alicante continues to be by far the province most frequently chosen by foreigners for property purchases of second homes or holiday homes. 17.6% (approx. 8,000) of all property transactions by foreigners were registered in Alicante in the first half of 2021, according to the latest publication by property market analysts Colliers. With 11.6% (approx. 5,000), the Malaga region in the south of Spain follows in second place. The Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca) only attracted 6.2% interest from foreigners in 2021.
The Alicante region accounted for almost 2,400 new property transactions. Of these, 472 were in Alicante city and 309 in the holiday region of Orihuela. Santa Pola (Gran Alacant) did not make it into the top 25 of this ranking in 2021, however, due to the huge building areas already planned, which offer space for more than 3,000 new buildings in Gran Alacant, as well as with the new buildings in Nova Beach, Solero Hills and Monte y Mar, which will be completed in March 2022, the chances are good to overtake Orihuela in the next few years!
The number of transactions for second-hand properties has grown by 57% in the province of Alicante compared to 2020, recording approximately 18,500 property transactions in the first half of 2021 only.
The most dynamic markets in terms of new and second-hand property transactions so far in 2021 have been the municipalities of Alicante, Torrevieja and Elche on the Costa Blanca.
