Implementation of plans for a new 25m high mobile network antenna began earlier this month. The planning was started two years ago, according to the Santa Pola local council. The mast is to be erected in the upper part of Gran Alacant and solve the current problems of insufficient network coverage. The operator of the new antenna is the mobile phone company Telefonica.
A second antenna is probably planned for the lower part of Gran Alacant, which will hopefully be able to cover the areas of Costa Hispania, Novamar and Monte y Mar as well. Especially in Novamar and in the direction of Clot de Galvany, mobile phone coverage is very poor.
